With this design I wanted to keep classic lines, i wanted a fast hull shape, great on edge, snug fitting, comfortable, perfect tracking in adverse weather, full control carving or turning, i also wanted a steep tipping point to make the secondary stability an active chine. large storage compartments, and minimal above waterline deck without compromising the shape, stable yet active, easy to roll and self rescue, basically the perfect touring kayak that looks and feels great, and super fun
lenth:5340mm
width:560 mm
front of cockpit height inside : 295 mm
back of cockpit height inside: 225 mm
cockpit rim width inside: 430 mm
cockpit rim length inside: 790 mm
(add 60mm for spray deck rim
= 490mm x 850mm size A keyhole, or large)
Paddler size medium to large, design weight 95kg then will take an extra 40kg of camping gear this will drop the kayak by 25mm on the waterline
(im 107kg 6 foot size 11 feet, and i take 40kg of camping gear and still paddle it fine for an example, stephen )
Introducing the big deck mannta sea kayak, so sizes,, length 5340mm width 560mm same as normal,, mods are, front cockpit rim height inside 325mm, rear 225mm, thigh 325mm,,
width of rim biggest point hips 485mm inside front end key hole foot gap 270mm, length of rim 835mm
width of seat 490mm, Iv basically maxed out what I can do by using the same hull on the mannta, Iv lifted the front deck up by 30mm not changed the back deck, but lifted it all round the cockpit area, I would be happy with 125kg in this kayak 6 foot 3 inch tall, size 11 to 12 feet , every 40kg after this will sink the kayak by 25mm for camping gear say,, can’t think of anything more to say at this point but Iv also made it look awesome with the shapes and lines even bigger paddlers need a sexy sea kayak that’s fast and streamline,, to add the optimal weight of the paddler for the mannta was 95kg so saying 125kg is at the top of the design speck for the hull so after that is a little unknown but will do some tests in the near future, but personally think it will take another 30kg easy before and compromises the hull design.
So at the moment, i build the kayaks from polyester resin and gel coats, i use lloyds approved laminating resin, with a club spec fiberglass layup that comes in out around 25kg to 27kg finished weight
(standard for most uk kayaks in this class)
I use all kajaksport Finland components, for hatches, skeg and deck fixings, but i build my own skeg box, the rest of the kayak is built by myself stephen marsh
Experience the ultimate adventure by combining kayaking and camping, most famously Nick Ray has completed a 12 month long camping trip using the Mannta sea kayak touring the coastline of Scotland, in some very tricky conditions in the most beautiful way, please check out his youtube, facebook or twitter feeds to see more of the Mannta and Nick Ray, the photo above is all the gear he can fit in his kayak, youtube video below of him packing his mannta sea kayak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFn6LgUYLec
